July 12, 2025 at 1:10 pmThe history alone (Charles Dickens’ old haunt) is worth the visit, and the food doesn’t disappoint. The varied summer cocktail options were a nice surprise as well. The staff were lovely and inviting.

July 17, 2025 at 5:18 pmCame here on a pub tour with my wife on our honeymoon, our tour guide chose fried white bait and Samuel Smith’s extra stout for us as the food and drink pairing for this leg of the tour. I love stouts, and this was one of the smoothest and creamiest stouts I’ve ever had. The white bait was one of the best pub snacks I’ve ever had. The old cellars are air conditioned as well, to boot—the perfect shelter from hot weather!

August 3, 2025 at 9:32 amSuper cool, old, historical pub in a back alley! Steep staircases, creaky old wood rooms and a labyrinth of hallways leading to bars is a really unique setting for a pint.
British pubs can be a bit of a weird setup where there is limited table service, you have to order at the bar and hope they bring you the right food. The prices were pretty steep and we didn’t end up staying around for food. Worth the visit for sure!

August 18, 2025 at 7:09 pmBeautiful historic pub with lots of various seating areas. Very popular with tourists. We turned up about 10 minutes after opening on a Saturday and it was already getting pretty busy. Knocked one star off for the stench from the toilets. Really strong smell of urine that can be smelled throughout a large part of the pub. The other star off for the barman that served us. He was miserable as sin and clearly didn’t want to be there.

August 26, 2025 at 9:38 amYe Old Cheshire Cheese should be a top pub stop for anyone who’s interested in English literary history. At least two very famous English authors frequented this pub. One Samuel Johnson in the 1700s and one Charles Dickens in the 1800s. And apparently many more to include an American visitor-Mark Twain. When you come in, you will see signage in the dining room indicating where Johnson sat. The drinks were good, thanks that’s one of the platters that we ordered was delicious. But the best part was meeting several locals and travelers and making new friends. This pub is like getting a free museum visit and tour in addition to the fine food and drink. And if you don’t like the area on the first level, there are three other bars and unique places that you can lose yourself in a fine piece of English history.
